Dr. Athanasios K. Delvenakiotis, MD, is an Ophthalmic Surgeon specializing in anterior segment surgery of the eye. He was born in Athens and studied at the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2001 to 2007.

In 2008, he began his specialization at the ophthalmology clinic of Bürgerhospital in Frankfurt, in the state of Hessen, Germany.

After obtaining the title of “Specialist Ophthalmologist” in 2012, he continued working as an Attending Physician at the same hospital. Since 2015, he has assumed the position of Deputy Director of the ophthalmology clinic.

In 2015, he completed his dissertation at Goethe University in Frankfurt, titled “Trabeculectomy – preoperative and postoperative factors affecting surgical efficacy,” and was awarded the title of “Doktor der Medizin.”

During his work at the clinic, he has performed thousands of anterior segment surgeries and served as the head of the glaucoma, cataract, and cornea departments. He has also been responsible for the training of residents and surgical education of ophthalmology specialists in cataract and glaucoma surgery.

From 2020 to the present, he has been working at the private clinic Augenland in Frankfurt, where he further specialized in refractive surgery.

So far, he has performed over 13,000 cataract surgeries with extensive experience in Premium Intraocular Lenses, hypermature cataracts and the management of surgical complications. The surgical management of glaucoma, either through the classic method of trabeculectomy or through minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), has been a focal point of study for over 10 years.
